Driven Fear - FREETHINKER- Album Review

Artist: Driven Fear
Album Title: FREETHINKER
Release Date: 26th February 2016
Music Style: Punk, hardcore

Driven Fear are about to release their latest offering titled 'FREETHINKER' through Pee Records, their fourth album with this label. The first single release is "In Care of Pt 2'.

A band from the Gold Coast, Australia, they're flooding the market with their punk hardcore attitude. They recently won the AFENDS 'fast n loud' competition and had money and support given their way. This year marks the twelfth year for Driven Fear and after a lengthy wait, FREETHINKER follows up the 2011 uncompromising album 'Contender'.

The album is gutsy, aggressive, purely riff charged and is an album that pushes the boundaries, therefore it needs to be turned up...LOUD.

The album begins with "Falling Awake", moving tempting guitar riffs that blend with more guitar followed by drums, low radio style voices that turns into a hard and loud tune.
"Fireball" has accelerated vocals that pave the way for gutsy guitar and drums that are entwined together through the fast paced anarchies of your mind.
"Built to Fire" is my favourite song due to the energy unleashed throughout each word, this song live will no doubt remain in your conscious.
The album goes from strength to strength and I think you will be intoxicated the more you get to know this album.

The FREETHINKER album has been created for your listening pleasure, a mammoth amount of energy and guts have been created by the boys, so if you love your hardcore punk style then grab a copy of the album and check out one of their upcoming gigs.

Paul Kelly Presents the Merri Soul Sessions - A Day on the Green, Perth

Band: Paul Kelly and the Merri Soul Sessions
Where: Kings Park, Perth - A Day on the Green
Date: 13th December 2015

A Day on the Green is known for entertaining us with major talented acts at an outside venue whilst we sip on wine and gorge on hampers packed especially for the concert. Green slopes make way for picnic blankets and chairs and down the front is the reserved seating section. Each side of stage has areas for dancing which get busy quickly. It's a glorious sunny day and the atmosphere is excited and happy. Punters are dancing for the cameras and the music played over the speakers is upbeat.

Paul Kelly has a new album out and it's not the man himself singing the entire album. He's become part of a bigger group, taking a side step from the spotlight but never too far away to be enjoyed. The Merri Soul Sessions has new songs with Dan Sultan, resurrected Kelly songs sung by the other singers and introduces some covers. Called Merri Soul Sessions, the album features Paul Kelly, Vika and Linda Bull, Dan Sultan, Clairy Brown and Kira Puru. An astounding array of vocals and I gotta say, the girls kick ass!

"What you Want" starts the set with Vika Bull leading the song and what a vocal range, just amazing to hear live with its powerful and awakening sound flooded with passionate harmonies. "Smells Like Rain" sung by Linda Bull is just as compelling and energetic and almost scary as I expected rain to be envoked and the heavens to open upon us. These two songs are my highlight because of their passion and range, goosebumps all around.
"Righteous Woman" featured Kelly himself, dapper in a burgundy suit and trademark hat, and the crowd were more than pleased to see the man himself perform. One male punter kept yelling out for Kelly to stay on throughout the whole show, it seemed someone didn't read the concert information properly.
Then it's Clairy Browns turn and looking hot in a white dress, she poured the song "Where Were you When I Needed You" with passion to an enraptured crowd. Dan Sultan gave us "Don't let a Good Thing Go" which as amazing as Sultan is, the girls held the stage tonight.
"I Don't Know What I'd Do" sung by Kira Puru is just golden, an incredible voice this chick has. I couldn't take my eyes off her and the crowd really got into the song.
"How to Make Gravy", "Dumb Things" and "Sweet Guy" are a few of the signatures songs sung tonight.
The band behind are just as talented, Cameron Bruce on keys, Ash Naylor on guitar, Peter Luscombe beating those drums and Bill MacDonald delivering the bass.
The singers triumph through all songs, delivering some cruisy numbers to the belted out songs and ended with an acappella version of  "Meet Me In The Middle of the Air".

John Farnham, Ross Wilson, Black Sorrows, Daryl Braithwaite - A Day on the Green Perth

Band: John Farnham, The Black Sorrows, Ross Wilson, Daryl Braithwaite
Where: Kings Park, Perth - A Day on the Green

As any Aussie knows, seeing a plethora of Aussie talent in one venue is a given highlight, add a glorious summers day, alcohol and the right combination of friends, and there you have a fantastic afternoon into the night out. Multitudes of picnic blankets, chairs and the aromatic presence of food is all around as I make my way into the venue. The food isn't too expensive but at nearly $40 a bottle for wine, I decide against that and then I walk on to find my seat.

The afternoon starts with the unstoppable Black Sorrows who could be the headline themselves, they pack a punch and erupt the crowd into a gaggle of excitable punters, showcasing hit after hit displaying the fact they still have got it. Joe Camelleri puts on a fantastic show as front man and the band rise up to meet him as they start the afternoon off with a huge bang.

Ross Wilson is up next, and again, what talent he is. You'll know him from his Daddy Cool and Mondo Rock days.  His voice is still smooth as he sings "Come, said the Boy" and his moves still grace the stage. "Eagle Rock" is still a big crowd pleaser. Wilson is one of those musicians that I watch and realise I know more songs than I realise.

Daryl Braithwaite starts off little low on vocal range, his vocals pick up after a few songs before "All I Do". "Higher than Hope" and "As the Days go By" remain dancing hits throughout the crowd and the finale "Horses" receives the usual standing applause. Braithwaite holds the stage from start to finish.

Whilst the sun sets and the kookaburras swoop down to pinch food from patrons hands, the lights shine on and the band enters then John Farnham. Crowd starts to go nuts and Farnham burst into "Age of Reason" where the impeccable vocals take hold and reach the stars. With a beaming smile, chats with the crowd, accepting roses and gifts, Farnham performs such a solid performance that we all wonder why he quit touring years ago to then come back. Never leave your fans John, they need you. His band and backing singers are impressive too, professional to the end.

Songs included today are "No one Comes Close", "Don't you Know it's Magic", "Man of the Hour", "Pressure Down" and the huge hit "You're the Voice" complete with two pipers, it's smashes the crowds already worn out vocals and bursts with new life. Tonight's finale is "It's a Long Way to the Top", the classic AC/DC song.
